SUMMARY:Scientific meeting: Marine biodiversity loss\, fishing\, and climate change
DESCRIPTION:On 8 – 9 December 2025\, a scientific discussion meeting will be held at the Royal Society in London\, on the topic of marine biodiversity loss. \nThe meeting will be led by Professor Richard Sanders from the Norwegian Research Centre\, Professor Alex Poulton from Heriot Watt University\, Professor Stephanie Henson from the National Oceanography Centre\, Dr Emma Cavan from Imperial College London and Professor Alessandro Tagliabue from the University of Liverpool. \nThe twin crises of biodiversity loss and rapid climate change are often considered as inextricably linked. This is a perspective primarily developed based on terrestrial systems. \nIn the ocean this linkage has been largely overlooked. At this meeting\, speakers and attendees will address this gap by considering the relationships between ocean biodiversity loss\, climate change and food security. \nThere will be a poster session on Monday 8 December 2025. Attendees can apply to present a poster. \nThis meeting is free to attend and is intended for researchers in relevant fields. \nAdvance registration is essential. In-person and online attendance is available. \nMore information about the speakers\, programme and how to register for this meeting can be found on the Royal Society website.

SUMMARY:MEDIN Webinar: Autonomous Platform Data Management and high volume archiving at the BODC
DESCRIPTION:This talk will cover BODC data management practices for each of the three platform types including data processing\, data dissemination and how we work with the wider platform communities. Data processing has a strong focus on metadata\, applying controlled vocabularies from the NERC Vocabulary Server and for glider and ALR deployments utilising a Semantic Sensor Network (SSN) database to register sensors and platforms. There are multiple data dissemination pathways across the platforms with Argo float and glider data contributing to the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS).
