SUMMARY:MEDIN Webinar: The global push for better data sharing
DESCRIPTION:The Decade Coordination Office for Ocean Data Sharing is the focal point for marine data and information management in the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. It is committed to fostering effective knowledge and information exchange\, and aims to raise awareness about data sharing\, capacity building and collaboration with Decade Actions and other entities. In this webinar we will introduce the work of the UN Ocean Decade and explore how there are overlaps between the work of MEDIN and of the Decade in building a community of practice for data sharing\, developing guidelines and data standards\, and encouraging good data stewardship practices. We will also discuss how these approaches scale into the digital ecosystem which is being built across the Decade and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO and feed an ecosystem of observation\, creation or acquisition of data to data management to forecasting and prediction to action. This work aligns with the Decade Data and Information Strategy and supports the achievement of Ocean Decade Vision 2030 goals.

SUMMARY:Webinar - Advancing Scotland’s Blue Carbon Action Plan
DESCRIPTION:The Marine Natural Capital Navigators are delighted to host this webinar\, which will explore Scotland’s Blue Carbon Action Plan (published in 2025) and Scotland’s approach to recognising\, protecting\, and enhancing blue carbon across its seas and coasts. \nThe plan sets out how Scotland will support its blue carbon habitats ; saltmarsh\, seagrass\, seabed sediments\, and kelp/seaweeds\, which naturally capture and store carbon\, in some cases for thousands of years. These habitats not only play a vital role in climate change mitigation\, but also provide coastal protection\, flood resilience\, biodiversity support\, and nursery grounds for fisheries. \nThe webinar will be introduced and facilitated by Cathy Tilbrook (head of NatureScot’s Sustainable Coasts & Seas team) and will feature a presentation from Professor Bill Austin (University of St Andrews / Blue Carbon Forum). The presentation will outline the scientific evidence underpinning blue carbon in Scotland\, the development of the Action Plan\, and its key priorities for research\, policy\, and delivery following its publication. \nThe session will conclude with a Q&A\, providing an opportunity for participants to engage with the Action Plan\, ask questions\, and discuss implications and next steps for implementation.

SUMMARY:Queensland University of Technology Centre for Robotics\, Marine Robotics Seminar Series: Sergei Nozdrenkov
DESCRIPTION:Sergei Nozdrenkov\, founder of Wildflow will be giving a talk titled: “Closing the Loop: From 3D Sensing to Reef Restoration”. \nsign up here: Meeting Registration – Zoom \nCheck out past seminars here: https://lnkd.in/gtw5RaQy \nA little more about Sergei: \nSergei Nozdrenkov is the founder of Wildflow\, an engineering startup building the data and AI stack to model the biosphere\, starting with coral reefs. Previously\, he spent six years at Google\, where he was a founding engineer on a biodiversity moonshot at X\, Alphabet’s Moonshot Factory. There\, he applied machine learning to insect biodiversity\, specifically focusing on pollinator health and computational pest management. His background spans large-scale distributed systems (Google Ads) and geospatial data processing (Google Maps). Sergei approaches nature through an engineering lens – aiming to increase the information bandwidth between humans and the biosphere to drive effective\, scalable restoration. He is also a passionate freediver. \n

SUMMARY:BIO-Carbon - international data workshop on the role of marine life in storing carbon in the ocean
DESCRIPTION:As part of the UK NERC BIO-Carbon research programme\, with the support of the Marine Biogeochemistry Forum from the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS – https://masts.ac.uk/research/biogeochemistry-forum/ )\, we are delighted to announce an international data workshop on the role of biology in helping the ocean store carbon. \nThe workshop will bring together scientists from around the world\, to pool data on key processes and to determine how we should go about capturing those processes in the next generation of climate models. A major aim of the workshop is to bring modellers\, observationalists and experimentalists together to co-design roadmaps for how this should happen. \nThe following projects have already agreed to be involved: APERO (France)\, BIOPOLE (UK)\, EXPORTS (USA)\, OceanICU (EU)\, PICCOLO (UK)\, REMO (SCOR working group)\, SOLACE (Australia)\, TCA (Canada). \nPlease find further details and a form to register an Expression of Interest (by 14th May please) here: \nhttps://forms.office.com/e/JizgtqVwej \nIn particular we are looking for volunteers to lead themes at the workshop. \n  \nWe look forward to working with many of the community in Glasgow in 2026. \nScientific organising committee: Adrian Martin\, Kelsey Bisson\, Philip Boyd\, Sarah Cryer\, Lionel Guidi\, Stephanie Henson\, Hans Hilder\, Julie LaRoche; Laura Lorenzoni\, Mark Moore\, Alex Poulton\, Carol Robinson\, David Siegel \n  \n  \n
