Last April we started our re-commissioned NERC National Capability marine science programme: Atlantic Climate and Environment Strategic Science (ATLANTiS; https://projects.noc.ac.uk/atlantis/). The programme is led by the National Oceanography Centre and is a collaboration with PML, SAMS and MBA. ATLANTiS delivers our sustained observations alongside modelling, ocean technology and digital underpinning capabilities, and targeted strategic science themes. We’re looking to convene a programme advisory group (PAG) to provide assurance to NERC that ATLANTiS is on track to deliver world leading science and underpinning capability. We are particularly interested in the views of early career marine researchers in this group and so invite expressions of interest from ECR’s working in any field of oceanography at any UK university or research institution, not involved in ATLANTiS. The PAG will meet approximately every six months, particularly during our annual science meeting, with the first meeting in June at PML. We will cover travel and subsistence expenses.
This is an exciting opportunity to learn about UK National Capability marine science and network in these organisations. If you are interested, please send a 2-page CV and a short statement explaining why you’re interested (about 1/2 page and less than 1 page) to Atlantis_NC@noc.ac.uk by 9th April 2025.
For this purpose, we assume Early Career Researchers (ECRs) are at post-doctoral level or above, within 10 years of completing their PhD, excepting any career breaks, and accounting for part-time working pro-rata.
