MASTS members wanted for Scottish marine science showcase

MASTS is pleased to announce that it is looking for researchers to come forward and participate in a marine science showcase this October at Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh.

On Saturday 22nd of October, Dynamic Earth is providing MASTS members with an opportunity to highlight to its visitors the diversity of research and careers within the field of marine science. This is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the exciting and valuable research that you do at your different institutions, and to inspire the next generation to follow in your footprints and pursue a career in this sector. With fuel costs being covered by Dynamic Earth, we are especially keen to include researchers from across Scotland at MASTS’ partners.

We are looking to really connect with the visitors, so the more engaging the materials/ equipment/ activity that you can bring along the better! If at all possible, we are looking to avoid the use of poster boards, but TVs can be provided if there are any materials that you would like to display (multiple images, videos etc.).

If you are keen but unsure on what you can do as an activity or are unsure how to communicate your science to non-academic audiences, then fear not! MASTS directorate members Hannah Ladd-Jones and Elizabeth Mills are here to help you build discipline related activities and provide guidance on science communication language and accessibility. In addition, if you are based at a university don’t forget you will have a public engagement/outreach team who can also offer support and guidance.

Whether you are just starting out on your science career and are undertaking a PhD, or are a more seasoned researcher with a love for science communication, then we would love to hear from you. The event will be on the 22nd of October, between 10:00 and 16:00 with lunch provided. Fuel costs will be covered by Dynamic Earth so if you are from further afield please do consider this opportunity.
