SAVE THE DATE – 2nd ‘High Seas’ Treaty Symposium, Singapore 17-18 October 2024

The first symposium in Edinburgh on 6-7 October 2023 brought over 500 people from 50 nations together with representatives from governments and treaty negotiators joining people from the private sector, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, civil society and academia.

Our delegates were from: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Belize, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Denmark, Ecuador, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Honduras, Iceland, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Kenya , Mauritania, Morocco, New Caledonia, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Samoa , South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Netherlands, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia , United Kingdom, Uruguay, USA.

We are particularly proud of the strong representation we had from early career researchers and students. These are the people who will inherit the ambition of the High Seas Treaty to manage biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction and take on the challenges of the planetary sustainability crisis.

Video recordings and image galleries from the 1st symposium are available on the conference website:

Themes for the second symposium will be announced by the organising team as soon as possible, but a major focus will be on the work needed to ratify the BBNJ agreement.
