Scottish Government has launched a consultation on its commitment to designate at least 10% of Scotland’s seas as Highly Protected Marine Areas (HPMAs) by 2026 – Safeguarding Scotland’s marine biodiversity.
The consultation covers a draft HPMA Policy Framework (which includes proposals for new legal powers to designate HPMAs in Scottish inshore waters), Site Selection Guidelines and supporting impact assessments. It will close on the 20 March 2023 and can be completed online at Citizen Space.
If you would like to know more about further opportunities for engagement on HPMAs please see our Stakeholder Engagement Plan.
