ECOWind – Ecological Consequences of Offshore Wind Funding Round Timetable

Addressing the effect of offshore windfarms on marine ecosystems

NERC would like to announce the indicative timing of some key dates associated with the call for proposals for the recently announced Ecological Consequences of Offshore Wind (ECOWind) research programme.

ECOWind is a £7m research programme co-funded by NERC and The Crown Estate, in partnership with Defra.  The aim of the programme is to address gaps in understanding of how marine ecosystems will respond to the planned large scale expansion of UK offshore wind and will provide evidence to inform marine policy and management of increasing pressures on the marine ecosystem from a combination of offshore wind and other anthropogenic stressors.

The planned timetable for key activities as part of the upcoming funding round are as follows:

October 2021 – Release of Announcement of Opportunity for outline proposals.

25th November 2021 – Deadline for outline bid proposals.

Early February 2022 – Applicants informed, following assessment of outline proposals, if they are invited to develop a full proposal.

Early April 2022 – Deadline for invited full proposals.

Mid-July 2022 – Moderating panel and applicants informed of outcome.

Early August 2022 – Projects required to start.

This information on the planned timetable is provided in good faith to help researchers prepare to respond to this funding opportunity. However, this timetable may be subject to change and timings will not be confirmed until the Announcement of Opportunity is published.
