Listen to an overview of the BR-UK AI Resources Repository and learn about the progress developing a Statement on AI by BR-UK. \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \n  \nAbstract: Current AI safety discourse disproportionately centres on highly salient technical risks such as algorithm bias and hallucinations. While these concerns merit attention\, they overlook a fundamental truth we’ve learned from other safety-critical fields like aviation and healthcare: catastrophic risks often arise from the way humans interact with technology\, rather than from the technology itself. \nThe Cabinet Office Behavioural Science Team has developed a novel framework to anticipate and mitigate AI risks arising from human-AI interaction. Rather than relying exclusively on technical safeguards and disclaimers\, this methodology expands risk mitigation beyond inherent LLM limitations (e.g.\, bias\, susceptibility to jailbreaking) to mitigate those risks that emerge from well-intentioned AI use. The framework also shows how seemingly innocuous micro-level decisions accumulate to generate systemic macro risks (e.g. labour market discrimination) that would remain invisible through conventional risk assessment lenses until harms had already occurred. \nThe framework has informed the risk-managed deployment of an internal Cabinet Office AI system and carries implications for how AI risk is managed globally. The work demonstrates that effective AI governance requires expertise beyond machine learning specialists. The contemporary AI implementation landscape\, however\, continues to frame challenges predominantly through technological and economic paradigms rather than socio-technical ones. While major AI organisations employ ethicists to “align” AI with human values\, philosophical frameworks alone will be insufficient for identifying and mitigating latent behavioural risks. DESCRIPTION:As pressures on our marine environments intensify\, there is a growing need for thresholds that can guide decision-making and support the achievement of Good Environmental Status (GES) under the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). At the request of the EU (DG ENV)\, ICES is advancing technical work on threshold-setting for seafloor condition indicators (D6C3 and D6C5). Input from the scientific community is essential to ensure these thresholds are scientifically robust\, operational\, and applicable across diverse management contexts. \nWKD6SCOPE is a scoping workshop aimed at presenting\, compiling\, and documenting expert input on current threshold-setting methods\, their practical use\, and key knowledge gaps. It will bring together a broad range of perspectives to explore what makes thresholds usable\, how uncertainty and risk are managed\, and what is needed to support implementation across different regions\, habitats\, and pressure types. \nThe workshop also welcomes contributions from managers\, spatial planners\, policymakers\, regional sea conventions\, and competent authorities to explore what makes a threshold operation and acceptable\, considering both scientific robustness and policy relevance.

Presentations will address a broad range of questions pertaining to marine and coastal spaces and can include anything from: \n\ncoastal and estuary hydrodynamics and morphology\nflood and storm surge climate change risk mitigation\nthe built coastal environment\nport\, harbour and shipping examples\noffshore topics\naquaculture\necological modelling\n\nDHI’s motivation to host this event is to allow you to share knowledge and experiences  about MIKE 21/3 and other DHI technologies in the conducive setting of a symposium. Representatives from regulators\, local authorities\, environmental and civil engineering consultants\, industry and academics are welcome to attend to learn and expand their professional skills at this networking event.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our September Coast-R Webinar\, where we’ll be joined by Dr. Charlie Thompson\, Director of the Channel Coastal Observatory at the University of Southampton \nCharlie is the Director of the Channel Coastal Observatory (CCO)\, part of the National Network of Regional Coastal Monitoring Programmes (NNRCMP) of England\, and an Associate Professor in Sediment Dynamics at the University of Southampton. She has worked in coastal process research for 25 years\, with interests ranging from exchanges of particles\, solutes and energy across the sediment-water interface\, the use of annular flumes\, multi-disciplinary applications of sediment dynamics research\, and coastal monitoring techniques. At CCO\, she helps to ensure the delivery of a consistent\, repeatable and cost-effective coastal monitoring programme designed to support Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management and beyond.
