MBA Research Fellow -Marine Biological Association Laboratory

Location: MBA Laboratory, Plymouth

salary :Salary is commensurate with experience, and based on the UCEA scale (£38,205 – £68,857)

Are you a visionary scientist ready to join a world-class marine research organisation that has been leading key scientific advances for well over a century? We are expanding our team and looking for up to three new MBA Research Fellows who are motivated to further develop their research profiles aligned to one of the three MBA strategic science pillars 1) Marine Microbiome; 2) Coastal Ecology; 3) Ocean Biology. These exciting new roles will allow the successful candidates to build independent research careers inspired by the discovery of new biology and ecology in the ocean. At least one of these positions will be aligned to our Ocean Biology pillar, specifically related to CPR Survey research with a focus on long-term time-series data capture and analysis.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a PhD in a relevant subject area plus postdoctoral research experience
  • Demonstrate an innovative public engagement and scientific outreach portfolio
  • Be responsible for organising and delivering their own high-quality research programme and securing external funding to build and sustain a research group. A track record of winning grant income is desirable
  • Be a visionary scientist, ideally with experience of motivating and managing teams
  • Have an excellent track-record of research and publications commensurate with career stage
  • Have experience of relevant research methodologies such as (but not limited to): novel biological ocean-observing tools (e.g. eDNA, optical, acoustic); molecular/cell biology; genomics; bioinformatics; microbiology (in the wider sense, viruses to plankton); invertebrate biology; fish biology; fisheries ecology; scientific diving; numerical modelling; macroecology; intertidal ecology; artificial intelligence and machine learning tools
