PhD: Offshore Renewable Energy (Data/Digitalisation with SGRE) – University of Strathclyde

The Wind & Marine Energy Systems & Structures (WAMSS) is an EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT), led by the University of Strathclyde, working collaboratively with Universities of Oxford and Edinburgh. The Centre aims to train the next generation of technical leaders, through EngD and PhD graduates, for the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) sector. Students complete 1 year of taught classes followed by 3 years of research.

he research team you will join has research interests that will include but is not limited to:

  • Operation Data:
  • Example research topics:
    • Field data to design feedback loops
    • Model calibration based on field data
  • Data Management:
  • Example research topics:
    • Efficient structuring of field data for design, engineering and troubleshooting use
  • Simulation:
  • Example research topics:
    • High resolution modelling of dynamic turbine behaviour
    • Digital Twins
  • Controls:
  • Example research topics:
    • Modern control architectures

This SGRE studentship is open to UK and international applicants with a first class, or strong upper second class, honours degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Structural Engineering.
