The Role
We are excited to invite applications for a Research Assistant/Associate in experimental fluid mechanics. We are keen to hear from those of you who have an interest in the broad field of fluid mechanics. You will join a diverse community of colleagues based in the School of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics at Newcastle and will have access to our fluids laboratory housed in our newly renovated Stephenson Building. The position is funded through a Leverhulme Research Project Grant and includes a generous allowance for travel, training, and dissemination activities. The project will be supervised by Dr Magda Carr at Newcastle University and will involve collaboration with colleagues at the University of Bath, Loughborough University, Penn State University, the University of Waterloo and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The project will investigate mode-2 internal solitary waves and involve a combination of laboratory-based research and numerical modelling.

You will play a key role in performing the laboratory experiments, visualising, and measuring fluid flow, processing data, developing numerical simulations, and working as part of the wider team involved in the investigation. You will get the opportunity to collaborate with leading academics in the field and be encouraged to travel and disseminate your findings through conference participation and Journal publications.

The role is full-time, fixed-term for a period of 30 months and the anticipated start date of 1 June 2024 is negotiable.
