Workshop Coordinator – Ocean Census

Location :Hybrid, including at home and at least one day a week at the Oxford HQ. This role will also include international travel.

Salary :Between £30,000-£35,000 per annum.

Contract :Fixed term ending March 31, 2026, with prospect of renewal thereafter.

 

The Ocean Census is actively seeking a Workshop Coordinator to join our dynamic team to manage the workshop and related processes with an international alliance of partners.

The Workshop Coordinator is responsible for developing and managing all the species discovery workshops (including leading some) and the curation of all specimens collected through Ocean Census. Additional responsibilities and opportunities are phased into the development of the role from April 2025, and this may include participating in some research expeditions.

A confident, proactive, and independent self-starter able to work and learn quickly, flexibly and responsively in a fast-changing environment.

ESSENTIAL:

  • Passionate / enthusiastic person with at least 4 years of experience coordinating events
  • Proven experience running scientific events
  • Proven experience of management (projects, teams, budgets, reporting)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrable ability to lead and develop workshops, confidence and assertiveness in communicating with people at all levels and from different cultures, in order to build good working relationships across the organisation and with partners.
  • IT literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • Able to work using their own initiative as well as being able to follow direction and work with other members of the team.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with ability to prioritise and manage multiple areas of work.
  • Already hold VISA or passport to work in the UK
