A new report, Developing Principles for Responsible Investment in Coastal and Marine Natural Capital, sets out how private finance can support restoration across Scotland’s coasts and seas.
Funded by Scotland Beyond Net Zero, it adapts existing natural capital principles for the realities of marine and coastal environments—balancing environmental gains, community benefits and long-term stewardship.
Led by MASTS members, Katherine Simpson, Laurence De Clippele, Natasha Walker-Milne, Chris Leakey and David Paterson, and shaped through cross-sector input, the report highlights the need for joined-up thinking across land, coast and sea, inclusive decision-making, and locally grounded approaches.
The principles mark a key step towards a shared framework for responsible investment in Scotland’s coastal and marine recovery.
