Hello! My name is Xiangru and I am a masters student in MSc Marine Systems and Policies at the University of Edinburgh. I am looking for Scottish fisheries-related stakeholders who would be willing to participate in a 45 minute online interview in June for my dissertation project.
This research project aims to explore the communication barriers between fishers and other marine stakeholders in Scotland. As the “blue acceleration” and the effects of climate change bring new challenges, and existing differences in opinion between marine stakeholder groups persist, this study explores how trust, perceived fairness, and the ability to be heard influence the way our seas are governed. By identifying shared narratives and points of contention, the project seeks to highlight practical ways to improve participatory planning and sustainable governance for all users.
I am seeking a diverse range of participants, including (but not limited to) fishers/fisheries representatives, industry, policymakers, ENGO representatives, coastal fisheries community members, fisheries academics and scientists, to share their perspectives. Participation involves a unique Q-methodology interview, a “quali-quantitative” approach designed to capture subjective viewpoints.
What’s involved:
- Online interview (Microsoft Teams) in June 2026
- Duration: 45–60 minutes
- Focus: perspectives on communication in Scottish fisheries
Participation is voluntary, and all data will be anonymised. Ethical approval has been granted by the project supervisor in accordance with the University of Edinburgh’s guidelines. Results of the project will be shared with all participants at completion.

Thank you for your help again and I look forward to hearing from you!
