The scheme, supported by the Royal Society, aims to help early-stage science writers from minoritised backgrounds based in the UK to advance their professional development. This scheme now has 60 past writers who have made big leaps in their writing careers, including finishing book proposals, book deals and bylines in journalism.
If you have an idea for a book, an article or another writing project, this is for you! We think of ‘science’ in the broadest possible terms including technology, engineering, mathematics, health, climate, sustainability, the history of science and more.
The 2027 programme comprises an in person event at the Royal Society on the 1st and 2nd of February 2027 (expenses covered) followed by nine online sessions from March to July. The attendees will get the chance to hear from industry experts, agents, editors, journalists, other writers, and have multiple opportunities to get feedback on their work. Applications close at 10am 9th November 2026.
We are also hosting a free Q and A session to answer any questions about the scheme and application process on the 7-8pm on 12th October 2026. Get tickets for this event here.
