National Marine Plan 2 – Stakeholder Engagement Opportunities

As you may be aware, we are in the process of developing a new national marine plan for Scotland’s Seas (“NMP2”), which protects the environment and supports our valuable marine economy and thriving coastal communities.

We want all sectors and communities to be part of developing NMP2, building shared objectives for the management Scotland’s seas.

We are currently compiling a Stakeholder Engagement programme to take place this Spring, where we will be sharing the draft high-level objectives for National Marine Plan 2 (NMP2) at a series of targeted stakeholder workshops, where we hope to gain valuable input from across the marine sectors to develop planning policy ideas.

The first two workshops are now available to book, we will have others available in the next few weeks. We would like to open these sessions out to representatives from the MASTS community, but please note that numbers are limited to 30 per workshop.

The first session is the Energy sector online workshop on Tuesday 30 April 2024 from 11:00 to 13:00. The focus of the workshop will be to gather planning policy ideas to support the delivery of the following High Level Objectives (HLOs):

Climate Mitigation and Adaption:

– HLO 1.1: Respond to the Global Climate Emergency, achieving Net Zero by 2045 and realising adaptation opportunities

Ecosystem health, protection and restoration:

– HLO 2.1: Respond to the Global Biodiversity Crisis, protecting Scotland’s marine and coastal biodiversity

– HLO 2.2: Restore and enhance Scotland’s marine and coastal ecosystem services in line with Scotland’s Biodiversity Strategy

Attendance will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and attendees are required to sign up using the following link https://bit.ly/NMP2Workshop-Energy

The second session will take place online on Wednesday 12 June 2024 at 11:00-13:00. The focus of this workshop will be to gather planning policy ideas to support the delivery of the following High Level Objectives (HLOs):

Sustainable Marine Economy:

– HLO 3.1: Enable multi-use of Scotland’s seas to reduce conflict for marine space.

– HLO 3.2: Safeguard opportunities for marine economic sectors to operate, based on available evidence and in line with Scotland’s ambitions.

Island and Coastal Community Development:

– HLO 4.1: Enhance and safeguard opportunities for sustainable, resilient and diverse marine economies within Scotland’s island and coastal communities.

Again, attendance will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and attendees are required to sign up through the following link: National Marine Plan 2 (NMP2) High Level Objectives Workshop – Aquaculture Tickets, Wed, Jun 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM | Eventbrite
